Climate Change Vulnerability of Pacific Lamprey (Webinar)

Presenter: Christina Wang, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Pacific Lamprey are a native anadromous species that, like salmon, historically returned to spawn in large numbers in watersheds along the west coast of the United States. Currently, populations have declined in abundance and are restricted in distribution throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California.  Threats to Pacific Lamprey occur in much of their range and include restricted mainstem and tributary passage, reduced flows and dewatering of streams, stream and floodplain degradation, degraded water quality, and changing marine and climate conditions.  In light of these threats, partners including Native American tribes; federal, state, and local agencies; developed the Pacific Lamprey Conservation Initiative to work collaboratively to conserve and restore Pacific Lamprey by reducing threats and improving their habitats.
